The Balanced Man Program |
|
The Balanced Man Program First implemented by Sigma Phi Epsilon in the fall of 1992, the Balanced Man Program is the Fraternity's leadership development program. It is self-paced membership experience for undergraduates that is based on achievement in the chapter and the community. The Balance Man Program builds brotherhood by developing individual members through mentoring and community service. Brotherhood is also strengthened by developing the group through chapter experiential learning activities and enhanced ritual ceremonies. As members progress through the challenges, their ability to lead and serve will be developed and tested. Implementing the Balance Man Program provides the chapter with many advantages including: ▪ Group activities which provide increased opportunities for brotherhood and fun ▪ Opportunities to have an impact in the community through service-learning ▪ Improved academic support through mentoring and goal setting ▪ New support materials which provide guidance for the personal development of each member ▪ Faculty and Alumni advisors ▪ Balanced Man Scholarship The Balanced Man Program is a series of challenges along The Journey to a Balanced Life--The Journey of Brotherhood. Each challenge is marked by a rite of passage, and consists series of goals to be reached, with an emphasis on involvement in the campus, the community, and the chapter. The entire program is self-paced--you set your own goals and form your own plans to reach those goals. The challenges that SigEp brothers go through are Sigma, Phi, Epsilon, Brother Mentor, and Fellow.
Sound Mind, Sound Body In building a strong mind, academic programming is stressed first and foremost. In addition to our numerous academic programs mentioned in the academic section, chapter and campus involvement is highly encouraged. The chapter also hosts speakers on a variety of topics including risk management, personal finance, career guidance, substance abuse, and decision-making. Sound Mind events are also scheduled which include brothers attending theatrical and musical performances. In developing a sound body, SigEp takes many routes to ensure our members have a sound body. Many members participate in intramural sports and athletic events. During BMP challenges brothers must commit time each week to physical fitness activities. In addition, our chapter hosts fitness challenges where members team up and compete against each other. Our chapter house is a designated non-smoking facility, and many measures are taken to ensure a clean and healthy facility. |
